School Context:
My school is smaller than most average sized junior schools with 165 pupils. Most pupils are of white British heritage with a small number from a range of minority and ethnic backgrounds. The proportion of pupils with SEND varies from year to year but is higher than the national average in Y4. Language and communication needs have been identified as the main challenge for children with additional needs and for disadvantaged pupils. The number of children receiving funding for free school meals is below the national average.
My school is set in a large open space with extensive playing fields lending itself to many opportunities for outdoor learning and forest school.
The challenge atthe school has been that as a non-class based deputy, it has been difficult to implement everything gained from the WRITE project. Aspects which have been trialled with success and those which have needed refinement for more positive outcomes are discussed in the study
