School Context:
Bedgrove Junior School is an LA funded junior school and it is set in the heart of a private housing estate in an area of affluence. It has approximately 450 pupils on role; seventy-two children are EAL and nineteen are Pupil Premium children. Currently, the school is in Special Measures and is having six-weekly visits from HMI. Within the scope of existing changes, it has been very difficult to implement other changes to the curriculum without any approval from the SLT.
It is a four form entry school with 109 pupils in year 4. There are a mix of abilities, ranging from children who are level 1, right up to those achieving a level 5. They are a challenging year group, with a high number of children with behavioural difficulties, particularly children in my class; 2 of who attend the PRU regularly and another one who is on the SEN register for his behaviour

Focus Pupils:
I have chosen a selection of pupils who are middle and lower ability pupils.
Pupil 1: Pupil 1 is a middle pupil. He is a very quiet member of the class who is a passive learner. I chose him, hoping that the literacy lessons would capture his interest and generate some interest.
Pupil 2: Pupil 2 is a lower ability pupil with behavioural issues. He tends not to be engaged in lessons and has a very low self-esteem, as a result, he can be quite disruptive. I wanted to capture his interest and boost his self-esteem.
Pupil 3: Pupil 3 is a lower ability pupil who is very quiet and lacks confidence. She has poor attention skills and will quite often switch off in class. I chose her because I wanted to capture her interest as well as improve her levels and confidence in literacy.
Pupil 4: Pupil 4 is a middle ability child who has not made much progress since key stage 1. She is hardworking and conscientious and always tries her best. I chose her because I wanted to increase her rate of progress.
Pupil 5: Pupil 5 is a middle ability child who has not made much progress since key stage 1. He is a quiet child who works hard and is genuinely interested in what is being taught. I chose him to be a part of the project because I wanted to increase his rate of progress.
Pupil 6: Pupil 6 is a middle ability child who works hard and loves learning. I chose her because she is typical of a child who is overlooked and I thought that by making her a focus child, she would be someone I noticed.
